Mysore Dasara is a 10-day festival that transforms the city of Mysore into a hub of cultural splendor. It celebrates the victory of Goddess Chamundeshwari (a form of Durga) over the demon Mahishasura, after whom the city Mysore is named.

Spectacular Events

  • Palace Illumination: The Mysore Palace is illuminated with nearly 100,000 light bulbs during the festival evenings, a breathtaking sight.
  • Jumbo Savari: On Vijayadashami, a grand procession is held where the idol of the Goddess is carried in a 750kg golden howdah atop a decorated elephant.
  • Exhibition: The Dasara exhibition grounds host a massive fair with stalls, food, and amusement rides.
