Significance of Saraswati Puja (Vasant Panchami)

Saraswati Puja is celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. It marks the beginning of spring (Vasant Ritu). Goddess Saraswati is worshipped as the embodiment of wisdom, art, and knowledge.

Rituals & Traditions

  • Yellow Attire: Yellow is the dominant color of the festival, symbolizing the mustard fields in bloom. People wear yellow clothes and offer yellow flowers to the Goddess.
  • Vidyarambham: It is considered an auspicious day to initiate young children into the world of learning (Akshar Abhyasam).
  • No Study Rule: In some traditions, students place their books and pens before the deity and do not study on this day, seeking her blessings for success.
